Lucy Charles-Barclay retains African Ironman title

British triathlete defends her title in South Africa, along with collecting a personal best Ironman marathon time.

We are in awe of this superhuman show of strength and speed! Lucy Charles-Barclay, the 25-year-old British triathlon star and Red Bull athlete, retained her title in South Africa at the weekend, taking victory in the Ironman African Championships.

Lucy was first out of the water in Port Elizabeth and on to her bike. The top contenders, including Spain’s Gurutze Frades and Lauren Brandon from the USA, were then neck and neck over the next 180km, and it took a gargantuan effort and a personal best Ironman marathon time of 2:59:33 for Lucy to take the victory, just over eight and a half hours after starting.

Well done, Lucy! You are our hero!
